About Us

The Bricket Wood and District Social Circle was formed in September 2003 to provide an opportunity for Jewish residents in the area to meet socially. Membership is open to Jewish residents (and their partners) living in Bricket Wood, Park Street, How Wood, Chiswell Green and surrounding areas.
The Circle is not affiliated to any Synagogue and is non-fundraising other than a £10 annual membership fee (due January 1st) to cover insurance and running expenses.
The group operates under a constitution and is administered by a Steering Committee consisting of a Chairperson, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer together with as many other members as is deemed necessary.
An AGM is held annually in November at which time paid-up members of the Circle are able to stand for, and or elect, the four honorary officers. A News Letter is circulated to members by e-mail monthly giving details of future events as well as reporting on past activities.
Under the umbrella of the Steering Committee a number of self organised groups have developed. These are led by members of the Circle who undertake to organise their respective activities which are financially independent from the funds of the main Steering Committee.
Our activity groups include: Book Circle, Theatre Outings, Stately Homes & Gardens, Music/Concerts, Walking Group, Coffee Mornings, Coffee Evenings. We also encourage the formation of other social groups to meet the needs of Circle members.

The above description was written in 2004 just a few months after inception. The fact that it could have been written yesterday is a testament to the structure and success of the Circle. In 2025 we have over 160 members.
